Football and Defiance

… are possibly my two favourite things, so when they become juxtaposed in the following instance, I cannot help but cheer silently.

Elsewhere, Iranians have been making their voices heard in protests across Europe:

While a recount has been ordered, I wonder if I am alone in my pessimism that this will herald the much hankered for change.

Would Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his motley rabble truly allow a recount to slide in favour of Mir Hossein Mousavi? Thereby conceding that there had been much dallying with the previous figures? Would his supporters allow such a revelation to pass with impunity?

Even if a victory emerges in favour of Mousavi, it would not be guaranteed a smooth reception; rather, the demonstrations and clashes can be viewed as mere rumblings before an altogether bigger storm.
