Kuwaiti Government Opens Doors to First Four Women Lawmakers

Ground-breaking women are always a cause for jubilation, but in this instance the news is particularly exciting as Kuwaiti women only gained the vote four years ago.

Voters in four districts elevated Aseel Awadhi, Massouma Mubarak, Rula Dashti, and Salwa al-Jassar to the position of law-makers in the recent election.

For Awadhi, the victory is multifaceted: “It’s a victory for Kuwaiti women and a victory for Kuwaiti democracy. This is a major leap forward.”
