Call for Opinions: Islamic Feminism

Earlier this week I received an e-mail from a freelance journalist who is compiling an article for the Italian newspaper Il Riformista on Islamic Feminism.

Although the questions are few, a plethora of diverse opinions would be greatly appreciated in response to the following themes:

  1. When did Islamic Feminism, particularly in the context of Malika El Aroud, begin to emerge to the fore?
  2. Are such cases rare, or on the increase?
  3. How varied are such movements?
  4. Lastly, how are they motivated – that is, politically, ideologically, and/or religiously?

Responses can be posted below in the form of comments; alternatively, to submit your views privately, visit the About page and the Contacting Layla text box.

Has there been any follow up to this survey? I would be interested in the results
